What comes up at every first visit.
When should pipes be replaced?
Pipes over 30 years old, lead pipes, or those with recurring leaks should be replaced. We'll advise after inspection.
How can I spot frozen water pipes during freezing weather?
No water flowing from taps accompanied by frost build-up or bulging along the pipe wall indicates ice blockage. Never apply direct flame to thaw pipes; use warm towels or hot air gentle heating to prevent pipe ruptures.
Why is pipe insulation important in unheated property areas?
Pipe lagging retains heat in hot supply pipes and prevents cold water lines from freezing in unheated basements. It also eliminates surface condensation dripping onto surrounding timber joists, reducing structural damp hazards.
How is a damaged copper or barrier pipe section repaired?
The plumber isolates the water feed, cuts out the defective pipe segment, and inserts a replacement piece. Copper lines are jointed using solder or compression fittings, whereas multi-layer plastic pipes use press fittings for leak-proof durability.
