What does a plumber cost per hour in Belgium in 2026?
Short answer: In Belgium in 2026, a plumber typically charges roughly €40 to €90 per hour on weekdays, depending on the source, the region and whether VAT is included. A call-out fee of about €15 to €80, depending on the source, comes on top, plus materials. Evenings, weekends and Sundays are often 25 to 100% higher. For small jobs, many plumbers quote a fixed price.

Plumber hourly rate on weekdays
On weekdays during the day, most sources sit between roughly €40 and €90 per hour. The gap comes mainly from the region, the type of job and whether VAT is included.
| Source | Hourly rate | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Bobex | €40–70 | Standard rate; VAT not stated |
| Trustup | €40–85 | Excl. VAT |
| Plombier-wallonie.be | €45–85 | Excl. VAT; Brussels higher than Wallonia |
| Renocheck | €50–80 | Excl. travel and materials |
| Homedeal | €50–80 | Incl. VAT |
| DM Plombier | €50–90 | Excl. materials |
The sources disagree, so read €40–90 as the outer limits of what is published in the market, not as an average. In large cities the rate tends to sit at the top of the range. A fair comparison only works if you know whether VAT, travel and materials are included.
Hourly rate or fixed price: which is better?
A fixed price suits a well-defined job; an hourly rate suits work whose scope is unclear in advance. For small jobs, many plumbers work with a flat fee.
- Fixed price: replacing a tap, repairing a trap, fitting a toilet. You know the amount up front. As a market example (incl. VAT, including the new tap and materials), Homedeal gives €180–320 for replacing a tap and €220–380 for repairing a leaking pipe. These amounts are therefore not directly comparable with a labour-only hourly rate.
- Hourly rate: sensible for fault-finding, break-out work or a cause that is not yet known. Ask for an estimated number of hours and a ceiling above which the plumber contacts you first.
Without an estimate, you carry the risk. Get the agreed rate, call-out fee and minimum duration in writing or in a message.
Call-out fee and minimum charge
Depending on the source, the call-out fee is between roughly €15 and €80 per visit, and many plumbers apply a minimum of half an hour to one hour.
- Plombier-wallonie.be gives €15–65 as a flat fee, and sometimes €0.40–0.80 per km return.
- Trustup gives €25–60, Myrenov €30–60 and DM Plombier €40–80 (during working hours).
- DM Plombier notes that many firms deduct the call-out fee if the work goes ahead; Myrenov says it is sometimes included in a first minimum hour.
- Loodgieters in de buurt mentions a minimum invoice of half an hour to one hour.
A short visit therefore still costs at least the call-out fee plus the minimum billed time. Ask whether the call-out fee is added to the hours, and whether it falls away if you have the work done.
Evening, weekend and Sunday surcharges
Outside normal hours, the surcharge is usually 25 to 100% on the hourly rate, with the highest percentages at night, on Sundays and on public holidays. Each firm structures this differently, so ask for the exact formula.
| Source | Time | Surcharge or rate |
|---|---|---|
| Plombier-wallonie.be | Evening and Saturday | +25 to 50% |
| Plombier-wallonie.be | Night, Sunday, public holidays | +50 to 100% |
| Loodgieters in de buurt | Evening, weekend, public holidays | +50 to 100% |
| Trustup (dépannage) | Outside normal hours | +50 to 100% |
| Trustup (dépannage) | Sunday, public holidays, night (10 pm–6 am) | +100% |
| Homedeal | Emergency, evening, weekend | up to €90–120 per hour (urgent rates often 30–50% higher) |
As an example of one 24/7 service: Speedy Loodgieter applies +50% from 7 pm and on Saturdays, and +100% after 10 pm, on Sundays and on public holidays. Offerteadviseur, by contrast, considers a surcharge of around 25% reasonable. The sources vary, so plan with a range and have the percentage and start time confirmed.
What drives the price of a plumber?
Four things push the invoice up most: timing, access, materials and region.
- Timing: day, evening, weekend or night, see the surcharges above.
- Complexity and access: a pipe in a built-in wall or under a screed takes longer and may need break-out and making good.
- Materials: taps, valves, traps and pipes are usually charged separately, sometimes with a margin. Check that brand and quantity appear on the quote.
- Region and distance: large cities and Brussels are often higher, and long journeys raise the call-out fee.
- Number of workers: two people on a job means twice the labour hours.
Why plumbers can feel expensive: you pay for working time but also for travel, tools, insurance and availability, especially in emergencies. These are general cost items, not a fixed rule per firm.
VAT: 6% or 21% on a plumbing invoice?
For renovation work on a dwelling aged 10 years or more, VAT can be 6% instead of 21%. The home must have been first occupied at least 10 years ago; otherwise 21% is the standard rate.
In practice this concerns work invoiced directly to the end user (owner or tenant) by a registered contractor, for a home that is mainly used as a private dwelling, where the same contractor supplies and fits the materials. Materials you buy yourself stay at 21%. Check with FPS Finance whether your situation qualifies, and see whether the quote states the rate applied. Plumbing work on its own is rarely subsidised; for grants, see the official regional portals (vlaanderen.be, renolution.brussels, wallonie.be).
How to read the invoice and avoid surprises
A good invoice separates labour, call-out fee, materials and VAT, and states the hours and hourly rate. Check these points:
- Hours and hourly rate, with arrival and departure time.
- Call-out fee: charged once, not for every return visit without reason.
- Surcharge: percentage and the time it started.
- Materials: description, quantity and price.
- VAT rate and amount.
Questions to ask before the visit:
- What is the hourly rate, and does it include VAT?
- How much is the call-out fee, and is it deducted if the work goes ahead?
- Is there a minimum charge or minimum duration?
- Does a surcharge apply at this hour or on this day, and how much?
- Fixed price or estimate, and when will you call me about extra work?
For anything that is not urgent, compare two or three quotes. Alpha Services Benelux works with a fixed written quote after a site visit; for a plumbing emergency, see the 24/7 emergency page. More on the plumber page, and for a larger project see the renovation page. The amounts in this guide are market ranges, not the company's price list.

How much does a plumber cost per hour in Belgium?
On weekdays, Belgian price guides publish hourly rates of roughly €40 to €90 in 2026, depending on the source, region and whether VAT is included. A call-out fee of about €15 to €80, depending on the source, and materials come on top.
Why are plumbers so expensive?
You pay for working time but also for travel, tools, insurance and availability. Outside normal hours a surcharge of 25 to 100% applies. A fixed price or written estimate keeps the total invoice predictable.
How much extra does a plumber charge on Sunday?
Sources cite +50 to 100% on Sundays and public holidays; Trustup gives +100% for Sundays, public holidays and nights (10 pm–6 am). Every firm differs, so ask for the percentage, start time and call-out fee in advance.
Do I pay a call-out fee if I have the work done?
It varies. Sources cite call-out fees of about €15 to €80. Some firms deduct them if the work goes ahead, others charge them separately. Have it confirmed before the visit.
Is a fixed price better than an hourly rate?
For a defined job such as replacing a tap, yes: you know the amount up front. Homedeal cites €180–320 incl. VAT, including the new tap and materials, as an example. If the cause is unknown, an hourly rate with an estimate and a ceiling works better.
