Concrete slab cost per m² for a patio, garage or extension in Belgium (2026)

Short answer: In Belgium, a poured concrete slab costs between €40 and €150 per m² installed in 2026, according to Trustup and SuperBeton (BCI Floors: €45–140). A plain patio is around €50–80 per m² at Trustup; a garage is €45–75 per m² at BCI Floors and €50–120 per m² incl. VAT at SuperBeton. Thickness, reinforcement mesh and finish explain the gap. These are market ranges, not a company price list.

How much does a concrete slab cost per m² in Belgium?

Expect €40 to €150 per m² for a concrete slab including installation (Trustup and SuperBeton; BCI Floors quotes €45–140). The exact figure depends on use, thickness, reinforcement and finish, and the guides do not always agree, so we show them side by side.

Watch the VAT basis: Trustup and SuperBeton (general and outdoor pages) quote prices excluding VAT, SuperBeton’s garage page quotes including VAT, and BCI Floors does not specify. Always ask whether a quote is with or without VAT.

Each range belongs to the guide named; we do not blend them into a new figure. For a patio or garage the price depends heavily on the finish level.

What thickness and reinforcement mesh do you need?

For a patio the reference is 15 cm; for a driveway or garage, 15 to 20 cm. For heavy loads, plan a double layer of mesh.

Patio15 cmFall of about 1.5 cm per metre (SuperBeton)
Driveway15–20 cm; min. 20 cm for vehicles (SuperBeton outdoor)At 20 cm with vehicles: double mesh
Garageminimum 12 cm; 15–20 cm usualDouble mesh for heavy or intensive use

Trustup quotes €40–60 per m² for an unreinforced 10 cm slab and €55–85 per m² for a reinforced 12–15 cm slab. BCI Floors puts reinforcement at €5–15 per m² extra. SuperBeton mentions 8–10 mm steel for houses and spacers to keep the mesh at the right cover.

The slab needs well-compacted ground: SuperBeton mentions a compacted crushed-stone layer with a membrane and, for a garage, a sand bed of about 10 cm. The excavation depth is the slab thickness plus the sub-base and is set by the contractor. Have a professional assess thickness and reinforcement for your load and soil.

Foundations and extensions: what does the structural slab cost?

According to Vakmanprijzen, a full floor slab or foundation costs €92 to €200 per m² (average €145) and strip foundations €120 to €220 per m². That is well above a garden slab because groundwork, formwork and reinforcement are heavier.

Foundation slabs and concrete: price ranges (Vakmanprijzen unless stated)
ItemPrice range
Concrete floor slab or foundation (installation, reinforcement, formwork)€92–200 per m² (avg. €145); VAT basis inconsistent in source
Strip foundation€120–220 per m²
Shallow foundation (light structures, stable ground)€92–150 per m²
Ready-mix concrete, no labour€95–150 per m³ (Trustup: €120–250 per m³)
Concrete pump€300–700 per day
Concrete mixer, flat transport fee (BCI Floors)€150–300

A worked example: 20 m² at 20 cm thick needs about 4 m³ of concrete. None of the sources gives a separate price for an extension; have an architect or engineer assess the structure. For the full cost, see our guide to house extension cost per m² in timber or masonry.

What drives the price of a concrete slab?

Four things matter most: thickness, reinforcement, finish and site access. Surface area and region come next.

For scale: a 20 m² patio at €60–100 per m² (BCI Floors) comes to roughly €1,200 to €2,000. A 30 m² garage at €45–75 per m² (BCI Floors) comes to roughly €1,350 to €2,250.

6% or 21% VAT on a concrete slab?

According to Test-Aankoop, the 6% rate can also apply to a terrace adjoining the house, a driveway from the street to the house and a garage that is part of or adjoins the home. Garden landscaping and fencing are excluded.

The conditions are the same as for other renovation work:

A slab for a new-build foundation is at 21% (Vakmanprijzen). Edge cases, such as a terrace that does not adjoin the house, are not always judged the same way by every source. Ask the contractor to state the VAT rate applied on the quote.

For possible regional support, check only the official portals of your region (wallonie.be, vlaanderen.be/mijn-verbouwpremie or the official Brussels portal).

Comparing quotes and avoiding surprises

Always compare quotes on the same basis: thickness, reinforcement, finish, VAT rate and what the price includes. A lower price per m² means little if the slab is thinner or unreinforced.

  1. Ask for thickness in cm, the type of mesh (single or double) and the build-up of the ground under the slab.
  2. Check whether groundwork, soil removal, formwork and concrete pump are included.
  3. Have the finish specified (power-floated, exposed aggregate, polished).
  4. Ask whether the amount is with or without VAT and which rate applies.
  5. Ask about curing time: SuperBeton mentions about 28 days for full strength.
