Renovation grants in Brussels and Wallonia in 2026: what is left and where to check it
Short answer: In 2026 the old regional renovation grants have largely gone in Brussels and Wallonia. Renolution is not open for 2025/2026 invoices, and the Walloon Primes Habitation ended on 30 September 2026, followed by loans (Rénopack, Rénoprêt). What remains: municipal support, free Homegrade advice and 6% VAT. Read amounts on the official portal for your own file.
Prices in this article are indicative Belgian market ranges, not Alpha Services Benelux's price list. Your fixed price is in the quote.
Where do the regional schemes stand in October 2026?
In short: Brussels has no open Renolution grant for recent invoices, and Wallonia has moved from grants to loans. Many commercial pages still show old amounts. We therefore deliberately state no amounts, percentages or caps: they change and live on the official pages.
| Region | Regional grant | What next |
|---|---|---|
| Brussels | Renolution: the official page only covers applications with a balance invoice dated 2024 and says the submission period is closed. No application is possible for 2025/2026 invoices. | The official site says there is no government decision on new forms of support. Municipal grants, Homegrade advice and the ECORENO credit remain. |
| Wallonia | Primes Habitation: temporary scheme from 14 February 2025 to 30 September 2026. | A loan-based scheme from 1 October 2026 (Rénopack, Rénoprêt). Under conditions, for projects engaged before 14 February 2025, an application under the old schemes remains possible until 30 September 2027. |
| Flanders | Mijn VerbouwPremie, only for homes in the Flemish Region. | Reformed since 1 March 2026; does not apply in Brussels or Wallonia. |
Brussels: Renolution, Homegrade and municipal support
In Brussels, do not count on a Renolution grant for work invoiced in 2025 or 2026. The official page is limited to applications with a 2024 balance invoice and says the submission period is closed. On the future it says: "A ce jour, il n'y a pas de décision gouvernementale concernant d'éventuelles nouvelles formes de soutien financier à la rénovation" (no government decision on new forms of support to date).
What is still available:
- Homegrade, the advice centre for private housing in the Brussels Region, is free for tenants, owners and co-owners. It helps with grant forms, analyses quotes and prioritises works.
- Municipal support: some municipalities add to the regional grants. It differs from one commune to the next; ask your commune's housing or urban planning department.
- ECORENO credit: for the conditions, Brussels Environment refers you to a Homegrade adviser.
Check any municipal grant before you sign the quote: the file often has to be submitted in advance and has its own conditions.
Wallonia: from Primes Habitation to Rénopack and Rénoprêt
The Walloon Primes Habitation are over: applications had to be filed by 30 September 2026 at the latest. The official text reads: "Les demandes doivent être introduites au plus tard le 30 septembre 2026." As of 6 October 2026 you can therefore no longer start an application under the temporary scheme.
Two nuances:
- On 24 September 2026 the Walloon Government adjusted the transitional measures. Under certain conditions, an application under the old schemes remains possible until 30 September 2027 for those who had engaged their project before 14 February 2025. Ask a Guichet de l'Énergie whether your file qualifies.
- The follow-up scheme starts on 1 October 2026 and is built on loans. Trade press describes Rénopack and Rénoprêt as zero-rate or preferential-rate loans; exact conditions, income categories and EPC labels are on energie.wallonie.be and logement.wallonie.be.
A Walloon file generally starts with an energy audit, so plan the advice first and the works afterwards.
Mijn VerbouwPremie does not apply in Brussels or Wallonia
The Flemish Mijn VerbouwPremie is only for homes in the Flemish Region. The official page says it applies to houses, apartments and apartment buildings in the Flemish Region. For a project in Brussels or Wallonia the Flemish simulator is of no use.
If you also own a property in Flanders, read vlaanderen.be/mijn-verbouwpremie: the rules changed on 1 March 2026. Amounts and caps are read on that portal, file by file, not on a blog.
6% or 21% VAT: what stays federal
The 6% VAT rate on renovation is federal: it applies in every region, including Brussels and Wallonia. Without a regional grant it is often the main benefit.
Main conditions according to Test-Aankoop and the federal FPS Finance portal:
- The dwelling was first taken into use at least 10 years ago.
- After the works it is mainly used as a private dwelling.
- The work is invoiced directly to the end user by a contractor.
- Materials you buy yourself do not get the reduced rate and stay at 21%.
Demolition and rebuilding and certain installations follow separate rules. Ask the contractor to write the rate applied, and why, on the quote.
Which source do you read for which file?
For each file, read one official source and talk to one adviser; a blog or commercial page is never the basis.
| Your situation | First source |
|---|---|
| Home in Brussels | Homegrade (free advice) and your commune's housing or urban planning department; renolution.brussels for the current status |
| Home in Wallonia, application already started | energie.wallonie.be and a Guichet de l'Énergie for the transitional measures |
| Home in Wallonia, new project | energie.wallonie.be and logement.wallonie.be for Rénopack and Rénoprêt |
| Home in Flanders | vlaanderen.be/mijn-verbouwpremie and the simulator at apps.energiesparen.be |
| VAT rate of the works | fin.belgium.be |
What decides eligibility, and how do you compare quotes?
Three things decide support: where the home is, when you apply and what the works actually involve. A grant or loan is rarely tied to a stand-alone job; an audit or an energy gain is often required.
- Ask each contractor to state the VAT rate and the reason on the quote.
- Separate labour and materials clearly: it helps for VAT and for any application.
- Check whether the application must come before signing or before the start of works.
- Plan renovation by appointment, without time pressure: haste leads to missed conditions.
- Compare quotes on the same description; see how to compare contractor quotes.
