What does a new fuse box or full rewire cost in Belgium in 2026?
Short answer: A new fuse box (consumer unit) costs roughly €350 to €1,600 in Belgium, depending on the number of circuits and the brand; a few French-language guides quote up to €3,500 for an extensive board with many circuits and residual-current devices. A full rewire runs from about €3,500 to €15,000 depending on size and finish. A new socket costs €50–€150. For a new or substantially renewed installation, the AREI inspection adds about €120–€250.

What does a new fuse box cost?
For an ordinary home you typically pay between €350 and €1,600 for a new fuse box, installation included. Sources differ widely because they assume different situations: 4 circuits in an apartment is not the same job as 10 circuits in a family house. Where sources disagree, we give the wider range.

The low end usually covers a simple swap with few circuits. The high end typically includes more circuits, residual-current devices, earthing or extra cabling work. So the price depends on size and finish level.
What does a full rewire cost?
Rewiring a whole home costs roughly €3,500 to €15,000. The spread comes from floor area, the number of points and the finish of the switch and socket range.

A single room costs far less: Homedeal quotes €450–€1,000 for one room and about €800–€1,200 for a kitchen or bathroom. For a whole house the same source allows 5 to 10 working days.

Price per socket and per point
A new socket usually costs €50 to €150, and replacing an existing one €30 to €50. For a full rewire, electricians often price per point or as a fixed sum, so ask for a quote that lists the number of points separately.

A socket in a concrete wall costs more than in plasterboard or aerated concrete, and chasing channels means paying for making good afterwards. Plastering and painting are not always included.
What drives the price
The number of circuits and points, the condition of the existing installation and the materials you choose drive the price most.
- Circuits and connection type: single-phase or three-phase, plus the number of circuits.
- Condition of wiring and earthing: earthing costs around €200 according to Heyman, €200–€800 in French-language guides.
- Brand and finish: a budget brand saves about €200 on a fuse box according to OfferteAdviseur; a premium switch range can nearly double the finishing cost.
- Labour versus materials: according to Heyman's indicative prices, most of a fuse box's cost is materials (roughly three quarters), while a full rewire is about 70% labour. Quoted hourly rates run €25–€50.
- Access: concrete, chasing, a board in an awkward spot or far from the meter all add cost.
Have a professional assess the installation before you fix a budget. Leaving spare circuits in the board is cheaper than opening it up a second time.
AREI inspection when selling, and after the works
Anyone selling a home must be able to show an inspection report on the electrical installation. A new inspection costs about €120 to €250.
- An installation dating from before 1 October 1981 must always be inspected at sale.
- An installation from after 1981 with a valid report under 25 years old does not need a new inspection, according to inspection bodies.
- If the report is non-compliant, the sale can still go ahead and the buyer has 18 months after the notarial deed to bring the installation into line.
- After a renovation or extension of the installation, an inspection by an approved body is also expected.

VAT 6% or 21%, and grants
For work on a home older than 10 years the VAT rate is 6%, otherwise 21%. According to Test-Aankoop and Baker Tilly, the conditions are:
- the home has been in use for at least 10 years at the time of the first invoice;
- it is mainly used as a private home after the works;
- a tradesperson supplies the materials, carries out the work and invoices the end user;
- materials you buy yourself stay at 21%.
The invoice carries a statement that the conditions are met; you have one month to object if they are not. A new fuse box on its own rarely qualifies for a grant. Grants change often: check the current scheme on the official regional portal (vlaanderen.be/mijn-verbouwpremie, energie.wallonie.be or, in Brussels, Homegrade and your municipality).
Comparing quotes without surprises
Only compare quotes that cover the same scope: number of points, circuits, brand of materials, inspection and finishing.
- Ask for the number of sockets, light points and circuits to be listed separately.
- Have the fuse box specified: number of circuits, residual-current devices, brand and spare capacity.
- Check whether chasing, plaster repair and painting are included.
- Ask whether the inspection and its report are in the price or billed separately.
- Check the VAT statement (6% or 21%) on quote and invoice.
- Prefer a fixed price after a site visit over a remote estimate.
