What do wood, vinyl and laminate flooring cost per m² in Belgium in 2026?

Short answer: In Belgium in 2026, installed flooring costs roughly €15–€70 per m² for laminate, €20–€85 for vinyl and €35–€150 for wood, with complex patterns such as herringbone reaching about €210. Levelling, underlay, skirting boards and removing the old floor are often charged on top of the per-m² price.

Prices in this article are indicative Belgian market ranges, not Alpha Services Benelux's price list. Your fixed price is in the quote.

Price per m² by floor type (materials and installation)

Laminate sits at the low end of the price range, wood at the top, and vinyl in between. Sources disagree, partly because some prices include VAT and others do not, and because finish level varies widely, so the wider range is shown below.

Belgian market prices 2026, materials + installation, per m² (indicative, incl. or excl. VAT depending on the source)
Floor typeInstalled price per m²
Laminate€15 – €70
Vinyl (click, glue-down, LVT)€20 – €85
Veneer parquet€35 – €70
Multilayer (engineered) parquet€40 – €130
Solid wood parquet€55 – €150
Herringbone / Hungarian point€90 – €150, complex patterns up to about €210

These are averages from price guides, not a contractor's price list. According to Vakmanprijzen, small rooms (under 10 m²) cost 10–25% more per m².

What does installation alone cost?

Labour runs from roughly €7 to €90 per m² depending on the floor and the fitting method. Floating click floors cost the least to fit, gluing and nailing cost more, and patterns cost the most.

Labour only (installation) per m², Belgium 2026
Floor / methodInstallation per m²
Laminate (click)€7 – €25
Vinyl (click or glued)€7 – €32
Parquet, floating (click)€10 – €20
Parquet, glued, straight pattern€18 – €38
Parquet, nailed onto battens€25 – €45
Herringbone / Hungarian point€30 – €90

Brussels runs about 15% above the national average (Vakmanprijzen).

What drives the price?

Mainly three things: the floor itself, the subfloor and the laying pattern. Looking only at the material price often hides a third of the bill.

Extras often missing from the per-m² price (Belgium 2026)
ItemIndicative price
Levelling the subfloor€7 – €20 per m²
Underlay€2 – €15 per m²
Skirting boards€5 – €20 per linear metre
Removing and disposing of the old floor€4 – €40 per m²
New screed€10 – €29 per m²
Sanding existing parquet€20 – €35 per m²

Vloerman's worked example for 40 m² of multilayer parquet: about €3,680 incl. VAT, made up of €2,400 material, €720 installation, €320 levelling and €240 skirting and finishing.

On screed, or on top of an existing floor?

A new floor can go on a dry, flat, stable screed or on an existing floor, but the latter is not always possible. Have a professional assess the subfloor before you decide.

On screed: it must be dry, residual moisture is measured and unevenness is corrected. Vloerman names insufficient levelling as a main cause of failure. Glued vinyl needs an almost perfectly flat base.

Over an existing floor: this saves removal (€4–€40 per m²) and mess. Vloerman considers it worthwhile if the base is stable, dry and flat enough, and sees vinyl as a frequent candidate. Allow for the extra floor height at doors and stairs. Old tiles with deep grout lines usually need levelling first.

Underfloor heating: which floor suits it?

Multilayer parquet, vinyl labelled as suitable and tiles work well with underfloor heating; solid wood and laminate need more care. Always check the manufacturer's specifications.

Floor surface temperature typically stays below 27 °C. Screed needs at least four weeks to dry, and heating is brought up gradually (about 5 °C per day, per Bobex). Installing the heating itself costs roughly €30–€150 per m² depending on the system (Vloerman, Chauffage-info, Bobex).

VAT: 6% or 21% on a new floor

The reduced 6% VAT rate applies if the home is older than 10 years, is used privately and the contractor both supplies and installs the floor and invoices you directly. If you buy the material yourself, it stays at 21%.

When comparing, check whether a price is incl. or excl. VAT: that explains part of the gap between price guides. For any premiums on related works, check your region's official portal (vlaanderen.be/mijn-verbouwpremie, energie.wallonie.be, homegrade.brussels (municipal premiums)).

Comparing quotes without surprises

A good quote spells out what the per-m² price contains. Always compare the same scope.

  1. Is there a per-m² price for material and installation, with brand, type and thickness of the floor?
  2. Are levelling, underlay, skirting and threshold profiles included?
  3. Is removal and disposal of the old floor priced separately?
  4. Is the VAT approach (6% or 21%) clear, and who buys the material?
  5. Is the floor suitable for any underfloor heating?

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to install parquet per m² in Belgium in 2026?

Expect roughly €35–€150 per m² for material and installation: veneer €35–€70, multilayer €40–€130, solid €55–€150. Herringbone and other patterns go up to about €210. Installation alone is around €10–€90 per m² depending on the method.

Can I lay a new floor over an existing floor?

Sometimes, if the base is stable, dry and flat. It saves removal (€4–€40 per m²). Vinyl is often suitable. Have the subfloor assessed: levelling costs €7–€20 per m² and the extra height can cause problems at doors.

Does vinyl cost less than parquet?

Usually: vinyl costs about €20–€85 per m² installed, parquet €35–€150. Laminate usually sits lowest at €15–€70. The gap narrows with high-end LVT and widens with solid wood or herringbone.

Which floor works with underfloor heating?

Multilayer parquet and vinyl marked as compatible are most often recommended. Solid wood needs precautions, and Bobex discourages laminate unless certified (thermal resistance below 0.15 m²K/W). Always confirm with the manufacturer.

What VAT do I pay on a new floor?

6% if the home is older than 10 years, privately used and the contractor supplies and installs the material and invoices you directly. If you buy the floor yourself, 21% applies to the material. Always check whether a quote is incl. or excl. VAT.
